ABOUT WES
One of the most defining moments in the evolution of music was the birth of the Blues. Originating in the swamps and deltas of the South, the genre took root and spread across the country, igniting musical revolutions in every corner. When the Blues found its way to Texas, it inspired and fueled legendary artists like Blind Lemon Jefferson, Lightnin' Hopkins, Albert Collins, Johnny Winter, ZZ Top, and the iconic Vaughan brothers—Jimmie and Stevie Ray. Now, the torch is being carried by a modern Texas Blues powerhouse: Wes Jeans. Hailed as a "Texas legend in the making," Jeans is a masterful guitarist whose explosive playing leaves audiences in awe. Wes is back by long-time drummer , Jack Miller who joined Wes in 2006 and bassist, Patrick Smith who joined them in 2015.
Texas Blues Powerhouse
A Legendary Journey Begins
Michael Wesley Jeans was born on January 13, 1981, in the heart of East Texas, not far from where Blues icon Freddie King was born. Raised in a musically rich environment, he developed an early passion for performing. His journey as a guitarist began at 15 when he discovered an old three-string guitar in his closet and taught himself the intro riff to Cream’s "Sunshine of Your Love." With a natural ear for music and an unrelenting drive, Jeans quickly honed his craft. Within just nine months of playing, he entered the International Jimi Hendrix Competition in Austin, TX, placing second among 1,500 contestants. Jimi’s father, Al Hendrix, told Jeans, "In my eyes, you won. You played straight from your heart, just like Jimi always did."
The Evolution
In 2004, Jeans independently released the Rough Cuts EP, which led to the filming of his Live at Juanita’s DVD in 2005, a raw, Texas-style blues-rock experience that became his top-selling merch item. That same year, Guitar Player magazine ranked him #3 among "Young Gun Guitar Players" in the U.S., between Jonny Lang and Kenny Wayne Shepherd.
Jeans' second full-length album, Forest of the Pine (2006), produced by fellow guitar slinger Lance Lopez, showcased his signature blues-rock sound and featured a guest appearance by Eric Gales. The album received widespread acclaim and was put into regular rotation on XM Radio’s Bluesville. By 2007, it climbed to #3 on the German Blues Charts. Touring in support of the album, Jeans continued sharing the stage with greats like Eric Johnson, Ian Moore, Doyle Bramhall II, David Lee Roth, and more.
In 2009, Jeans released Live in Music City Texas, which became a staple on XM-Sirius Radio and solidified his place as a leading force in modern blues-rock. His talent earned him multiple accolades, including East Texas "Blues Artist of the Year" (2012-2014), "ETX Guitarist of the Year" (2013 & 2016), and the first-ever "ETX Music Legend" award in 2014.
Expanding Horizons
After years of relentless touring, Jeans briefly stepped away from the road in 2015 to focus on his family and launched Musicians Unlimited, a music school and recording studio in his hometown. A year later, he joined Texas Country artist Darrin Morris, touring extensively with multiple songs charting in the Texas Country scene. In 2017, he was officially honored as a "Texas Tornado."
By 2018, Jeans reunited with Lance Lopez for the Tell The Truth Tour under Provogue Records. In 2019, he reassembled his powerhouse trio, returning to the stage as a solo artist. In 2023, Jeans signed with Against The Grain Records, immediately diving into the production of new music. His evolution as a guitarist, vocalist, and producer became evident in his latest recordings, solidifying his status as a dynamic force in modern blues.
Fueled by that encouragement and the unwavering support of his family, Jeans set out to make music his life. He quickly became a fixture on the live music scene, drawing the attention of booking agents and record labels. In 1999, he signed with Icehouse Records, founded by the legendary Philips family in Memphis. His debut album, HANDS ON (2000), featured a stellar lineup, including Al Green’s bassist John Williams, drummer Lloyd Anderson, and Albert King’s former B-3 player Gregg Redding. The album soared to #26 on the National Blues Sales Chart and remains a fan favorite.
Over the years, Jeans has had the honor of sharing the stage with a roster of legendary musicians, including B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Jimmie Vaughan, Billy Gibbons, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Warren Haynes, Joe Bonamassa, Eric Gales, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, and Ted Nugent. After an electrifying opening set for B.B. King in 2003, King personally invited Jeans onto his tour bus, offering words of wisdom: "Son, keep your head on straight—you’re going places."
Rise to Prominence
Wes Jeans has been on a roll, releasing a string of powerhouse singles. In January 2024, he dropped the hard-rocking Save Me, written and mixed by fellow guitar virtuoso Tyler Bryant. That was followed by No Tears Left To Cry in June, featuring Tommy Katona. November 2024 saw the release of his blues EP One Day At A Time, celebrated with a series of Texas shows alongside blues heavyweight Mike Zito, earning rave reviews from fans and critics alike.
In addition to his own work, Jeans has stepped into the producer’s chair, lending his expertise to albums by Texas Flood, Kim Donette, and Michael King & The Icebreakers in 2024.
With 2025 on the horizon, Jeans shows no signs of slowing down. He’s gearing up to release another EP and a full-length album under Against The Grain Records. With nearly three decades of experience, a blazing guitar tone, and an undeniable passion for the Blues, Wes Jeans is proving, time and time again, that Texas Blues is alive and thriving.
